Cheap Public Transport

When traveling in Fiji the cheapest way to get to your destination is to catch public transport.

There has been a change in Fiji, if you are travelling by bus you wont be paying cash. Now we use vodafone e transport card.

When in the disembarking from the airplane ask the staff's at the airport of the location where you can get your e transport card. Top up your card and you are good to go.

The Fare from Nadi Airport to Nadi Town should cost  you from 70 cents to $1.15 Fijian dollars.

If you are going to Denarau or to the Yasawa Islands via Denarau you can catch a cab or a public bus from the bus stand.

If you are going to Lautoka, the public bus stop is just two minutes walk from the airport.

Tip: When boarding the bus, inform the driver or the conductor of your destination and give them your card.

Yellow Taxi operate in the airport but they cost a bit more than the Taxi cabs.

When you are traveling in a normal Taxi  make sure that the driver turns the taxi meter on. This is just a precaution to make sure that they do not overcharge you.

For rental car service we have a lot of them in Fiji.

If you are traveling to Suva to Lautoka via the kings road, then you can either travel via Sunbeam transport or Intercity Transport.

The latest offer for groups who wish to travel down to the west or travel up to Suva from Lautoka is If you wish to go at/after 6pm 15 sitters -$200.00 FJD instead of $285.00 FJD  and 10 sitter at $130.00 FJD.

There are numerous modern, air-conditioned coaches serving resorts and major towns. However, many visitors like the adventure of using the local open-windowed buses so they can take in the sights and sounds of the passing scene. Canvas flaps are unfurled in the event of a rain shower.

Local buses also allow the visitor a chance to mingle with the people of Fiji, who by choice and tradition, treat strangers with gracious hospitality. Every town and village has a bus stop, since this is still the most common form of transportation in the islands. You can also hail any public bus from the roadside merely by waving to the driver.

If you are travelling from one of the hotels to town then getting in an Express bus would cost you more. If you are not rushing then I would recommend the normal bus.

Tip:  A few of the Normal buses in Fiji are very slow.
